venting>>astrological signs chaos!

Facebook has been overloaded by simpleminded status updates concerning the "Change of Astrological Signs" & it's starting to thoroughly annoy me.. if you are so concerned with your sign changing, do some research and actually learn about Astrology &/or Astronomy. it's so interesting and so beautiful. Thankfully to this foolish (yet legitimate) astronomer, the world now thinks that the sign you were born under and the sign you have followed your whole life (if you have followed your sign), is wrong>> FACT. this has been known & understood for THOUSANDS of years by Astronomers AND Astrologers...
It all began with this "legit" astronomer (who by the way, doesn't even believe in Astrology) when he was interviewed on TV (first problem). ALL he said was "the sun is not really passing through the constellation, or astrological 'sign' that one would think."

and so it begins.... COME ON PEOPLE! the sun has been drifting for more than 2,000 years so why after this goofy scientists tells you something is wrong, you jump on it and FREAK OUT!  All of you should study Hipparchus, an ancient Greek Astrologer who had huge impact on Astrology and discovered many things concerning the universe.
The Precession of the Equinoxes is the phenomenon of the moon causing the earth to "wobble" on it's axis & for the past 2,000 years, it's been doing just that. SO THEY HAVE ALWAYS, ALWAYS BEEN WRONG. you probably weren't born under the sign you thought you were, but that's OKAY! Due to the fact of GRAVITY, the earth wobbles on it's axis. & since 600 B.C., the precession has moved the actual position of the sun against the background constellations about a month out of synch.

for all the people still not catching on, close your eyes and imagine a circular room with 12 pictures hanging on the wall.. each picture represents a constellation.. the sun is at the center of the room & the earth (you) orbits around it. as the earth orbits around the sun, the sun appears to move in the opposite direction parallel to the pictures in the background. after one year, the sun seems to have moved through the full circle of pictures (the 12 constellations of the zodiac). the sun is always, always sits against a backdrop of stars and constellations (you obviously can't see the stars in the daytime because the sun is too bright, but they are always there).

There are many types of traditions of Astrology, Western is the one that most of us use, it's the mainstream. & western astrologers zodiac starts in whatever constellation the sun happens to be in on the vernal equinox (first day of spring). they only saw that as a year went by, the sun moved along a celestial trail called the "ecliptic," slipping through a series of 12 constellations.

back to Hipparchus, who figured out in 134 BC (NOT 2011 AD) that the astrologer's celestial frame of reference was moving. The spinning Earth wobbles slowly around it's axis because of the gravitational tug of the moon.. the wobble rotates in a 25,800-year cycle that gradually pushes the vernal equinox westward around the sky, throwing off all the zodiac's original dates. since 600 BC, it has moved about 36 degrees around the zodiac... that's like a month.

OH AND ANOTHER THING.. Ophiuchus is NOT A NEW SIGN! it was part of the ORIGINAL constellation chart and was thrown out around 300 B.C. to "make the constellations even."

SO.. if you are like me, and you believe that the stars and planets have a connection with human life, then you don't need to know which constellation the sun was really in on your birthday. Look into the "Tropical Zodiac," which means they start their celestial year from the vernal equinox and call it Aries, no matter where the sun really is among the constellations. According to some astrologers, the actual position of the starts and constellations don't matter anymore, their names are used as a matter of convenience (also keep in mind they are based on MYTHOLOGICAL characters used for storytelling). so maybe the real question is...

what came first, the stars or the zones?

much love.
